Zephyr Electric Power
About Us

The Carolina Wind Reserve, the first offshore wind farm in the South East and possibly the largest in the US, will be constructed on two sites. Together, the wind park will consist of 200 wind turbines, with a total maximum output of 720MW. Located miles from the shoreline, the wind park will produce, on average, enough electricity to power approximately 195,000 homes and businesses along the coasts of Virginia and the Carolinas.

Based on the experience of European wind farms, there are several characteristics of a site that are considered necessary:
  1. Strong wind resource
  2. Shallow depths
  3. Respective distance from ferry lanes, shipping channels and protected environmental sanctuaries
  4. Relatively low ocean storm wave heights
  5. Electrical connections
  6. Minimal visual and audio impacts to local community
The Virginia and Carolina coasts provide all the characteristics essential for building a successful, alternative to currently used power sources.
